Readers of The Postcapitalist often challenge the postcapitalist thesis: “Food can’t be digital.” They argue that the hypothesis I put forward that food will be grown in countertop units similar to Star Trek’s replicator machines is a pipedream, even though we are increasingly growing fresh food indoors with robots doing the work. My claim was that someday, we will use solar energy together with a supply of minimally necessary inputs to essentially 3D print our food.
Guess what? That day has arrived.
